Regarding National Day

This is regarding National Day celebrations in school tomorrow, (8 August 2011)

Reporting time is 7AM at the Band Room; Be down at the parade square by latest 7.15AM.
If you know you might be late as there are potential traffic jams, etc, please do leave earlier.
Those whom have brought home their instruments can report to the parade square directly, however please do NOT be late as well.
Attire will be as the school said, in HOUSE SHIRTS and Pinafores.

Please note that we will be taking note of all late attendance.
Every minute late will result in one round, as per normal band practices.
SLs, please do take note of who was present tomorrow and note me the attendance via SMS as there will not be enough time to note down who as there is mass.

As you should know from your SLs, there will be no band rehearsal this Saturday.
Instead, we'll be having CIP.
There will be attendance taken so if you are not able to make it, you are to produce an MC or a Letter with a valid reason.

thursday full dress rehearsal from 3 to 6pm. band uniform is not required but court shoes have to be brought.

Hi band. Some reminders for all of you.

Absolutely NO ONE is allowed to take the lift, EVEN ON SATURDAYS, except with the permission of the teachers.
Attendance is compulsory for band practice, even if you are not performing for SYF showcase. This will all be counted towards your 75% attendance requirement for CCA points. Do not think that because term is ending, practice is optional.
NO ONE is supposed to miss band for the sake of doing CIP activities, especially flag days. The band will organise activities to ensure EVERYONE gets to achieve the minimum hours required every year. If you insist on going for these things and miss band, we will not mark your attendance for that practice and if you are just below the 75% requirement, the teachers will not hesitate to let it be and not push you up.
Please inform the teachers and leaders if there are any level activities that clash with band practices ONCE YOU HEAR ABOUT THEM. Do not wait until the day itself to tell your SLs, the leaders, or the teachers.
All band members are to check with the teachers if they are allowed to go on school trips BEFORE they sign up for them. If you know that we are preparing for a major concert or competition, do not bother asking as you will not be allowed to go because everyone has an important part in the band and it will not do the band any good to have missing people during practices.
Disciplinary action will be taken against those who use band as an excuse to leave the house and yet do not turn up for band. THIS IS CONSIDERED AS TRUANCY AND IS A SERIOUS MATTER.

Please really take note of all this as we've repeated them umpteen times and yet there are always people who would do one of these things and feign ignorance. IGNORANCE IS NOT A VALID REASON. It is YOUR personal responsibility to find out what school trips/activities you are and aren't allowed to take part in.

Hey band!

Great practice today. Sec 2s, keep working hard. :) You guys have potential to be great musicians. Don't be discouraged if you still can't really get everything right. All of your seniors had to go through a really tough time before we got everything up to this standard.

Announcements from today:

Sec 1s and 2s, please let Vanessa know ASAP if you want to go for the SYF showcase. There are limited tickets. Last day to inform her would be Friday, 20th May. If you do not have her number, please inform your SLs and ask them to help you inform her.
All Sec 4s and 5s who are taking the MT O Level paper on 30th May need not come for band the week before your paper. Please still come for this Saturday's practice.
A reminder that the voting of the new comm would take place THIS Saturday, 21st May. Please try not to absent yourself as much as possible.
A notice to all, Sir is unable to be with us during the actual showcase, so please use all practices properly and get everything correct. Please make life for your student conductor as easy as possible. :D

Here are a few announcements made on Saturday's band practice. Please take note of them:

Morning rounds start this week (6 rounds). Please note that when the music starts, the comm members will stop taking attendance.
There are no Monday rehearsals till syf showcase. Rehearsals will only be on Wednesdays and Saturdays. The sec 2s are officially in main band now so please take note of our practice dates.
All sec 4s taking MT O-level this May are excused from band 1 week before the paper. People who are took their paper last year (sec 4&5s) will still have to come. Attendance will be taken.
SYF showcase is only inclusive of SYF members. It is compulsory for all SYF members to sell at least 2 tickets ($5 each) even if you are unable to make it for the event. All proceeds will go to needy students in IJ. We are not allowed to sell to sec 1&2s jrs and it is also compulsory for all sec 2s to attend the event. Note that sec 1&2s are to purchase their tickets from the teachers.
Voting for the new band committee will take place next Saturday. Please try your best to make it!

Hello everyone :D Thank you for the effort that you've put into this SYF! Let us all accept the medal we received graciously. What had happened just now on stage, happened, and there is truly nothing more we can do to change the results. What mattered was that all of us persevered to the end! There are many things that are beyond our control but what we can control are our emotions. Please don't give up on the band and ultimately, on yourselves. Take Sydney (for sec 3s-5s) and SYF (all of you guys!!) as a learning experience. All we can do now is to just practise even harder, all of us, so that we will not let history repeat itself again.

We are not alone in this SYF. Many bands that were once gold or gwh standards, dropped this year. One reason is because the band scene in singapore is changing, thus the standards have also gone up. Don't think about it too much and keep moving forward. It's the only thing we can do (:

To the graduating seniors:
It's time for us to move out of the bandroom (AKA our second home). Haha. Let us all think back about band and only think about the good times we've spent together with our bandmates! LET'S CHIONG FOR Os AND MAKE OUR BAND PROUD! We've all grown so much since the first day we joined band and it is truly a remarkable jouney that we've spent together as one band.

To the sec 3s-4s:
We know all of you have tried your best-in Sydney & SYF. Please don't give up on the band now. It is really your time to be the new pillars of suuport for the entire band after we officially step down after SYF showcase. Please be strong for the juniors and enjoy the rest of your days in band! Time flies so treasure everything that you have. Always look at the bright side of life! The seniors will always be here with you if you ever need us.

To the sec 2s:
To be able to be part of SYF is already a remarkable achievement for you guys! Please share your experiences with your peers and encourage one another to work hard and strive for the gold/gwh medal in the next SYF. All of you still have another chance! So don't give up! We are all proud of you for being strong (:

We did really well today for today's rehearsal. Tomorrows the day we have all been waiting for :) Our time has finally come to show the judges what we are really made of... we know that it has been a difficult 4 months preparing for syf.. lets give our best tmr and show the judges that we really deserve that GOLD medal!!!

1. Inform the band of the following cut. We are cutting out bb. 61 (one bar before figure 7). We will trill for 2 bars and then jump straight to fig 7. its so that we can express more at the other slower parts. We have been playing them slightly too fast due to time constrain.

Pls report on Saturday in FULL BAND UNIFORM, including stockings. Pls remember that you are to where BLACK hair ties, otherwise you will have to purchase one from us for $1.

you are allowed to report in the band room BY 8.30am on 7th APril, in full school uniform, I.e blouse, and not pe t-shirt. You will not be attending lessons that day.

This serves as a reminder for those who might not be aware of how close SYF is. I hope that this will motivate and encourage those of us who have still yet to sort out our parts. Everyone can has the capacity to improve so let's give it our all!

There is morning assembly tomorrow (28/3/11) so please report in the band room by 7am. All sec 2 band members are to report to the band room as well.

Aloha Band~! Please refer to the previous post regarding the soundcheck as well.

Washing of reeds-Please be reminded that all woodwind players are to wash your reeds in school and the minimum number of reeds you should bring your the sound check is 2. Please take good care of your 2 best working reeds and bring a mouthpiece guard for your instrument if possible.
Breathing pipes & breadbags-Bring along your breathing pipes & breadbags for the soundcheck as sir would like the band to do some breathing exercises with us while we wait for our turn. For those who do not have a breadbag, please get one as soon as possible, if not, use a plastic bag which is similar to that size
Pencils-Everyone is to have one pencil each during the soundcheck. Please put it in your band file as soon as you report in the band room. This is very important as we need to write down/make the necessary changes to our score when sir requests for it. SLs and ASLs are to ensure that your section has one each
Water bottles-You are recommanded to bring your water bottles with you

As Anne had mentioned it on Monday, you are highly recommended to report before 5.30pm to warm up your instruments so that we can make full use of the 10min we're given in the tuning room. It will also get you mentally prepared to play later on in SCH. Please remember that we only have 5min to get the entire band tuned so time is extremely tight! Rely on your ears rather than the tuner, like what sir said. :D

Hey band!

Please take note, morning assembly is cancelled as tomorrow is an odd week, not even. It will be next week instead.

A few announcements for today.

Towels - Those who have forgotten to bring their towels home and left it in the guitar room, please claim them by Monday after school. If you are sick on that day but you know you left your towel, please message any comm member and inform them which towel is yours and we will keep it safely for you. Any unclaimed towels will be thrown away so remember to collect them.
~~Morning Assembly - There is morning assembly this Monday. As usual, please report to the band room by 7am and be ready for warm-ups by 7.10am. Morning assembly will end after SYF.~~
Monday's Practice - Sir will be coming to take combined rehearsal. From 3pm - 4pm, those having the melody at figure 31 - 35 with the grace notes will have sectionals with Sir in the band room. The rest of the band is to go off for their own sectionals and work on all the things Sir has asked for and return to the band room by 4pm. Junior band will be in the CCA room.
Sound check - Sound check is this Wednesday so there is no band practice. Please report to the band room by 5.30pm in full band uniform with stockings for uniform inspection. Your instrument cases and files should be next to you at your seats. Tubas, you may bring your instruments near the lift and have your files with you. All SLs are to remember to bring your tuners for sound check. This includes the percussion. Percs, please lend your tuners to the tuba section during tuning. Sound check is from 7.30pm to 8.30pm. The bus leaves school at 6pm, and expect to be back around 9+.
Morning Runs - Those who have to make up rounds, please do so on your own accord. We will not be chasing after anyone to make up rounds anymore. Also, please take note that there is no more morning runs for the main band. However, Sec 2s not involved in SYF are to continue their morning runs.
Band Practices - It's only 1 more practice to sound check, and only 7 more to SYF itself. CCA stops after SYF until after mid-years. Sec 4s, your last project as a band member would be the SYF showcase. It is not an option to participate in it, it is compulsory.

To all who were at band camp, thanks for your participation, and we really hope you guys enjoyed yourself. It's great to hear that we're really improving a lot now, and the Gold isn't far away at all. It's the final lap, let give it our all, yes? It's 2 weeks to SYF. We can do it! Just think of how much effort we've already put into the preparation before camp, add it the the 20 hours of intensive practice we had during camp, and realise that it really is a lot of time we used to get everything right. So after all the hours we spent practicing, we're going to give it our all for the last bit until SYF itself, right? Just think of SYF as the finishing line, and the preparation as the marathon that we're running now. We're reaching the end, so let's give it our all and sprint to the finish line. We can do it! Hi Band, we will only be having our exchange programme with 1 school: Tampines Sec Sch, as the 2 other schools pulled out due to other commitments. The exchange programme will commence at 9am and end before our lunch at 1pm. Please try to come slgihtly earlier on Thursday morning to sign on the card that we have made for them (:

Breakfast @ tp market has been cancelled as the weather these days are very unpredictable and it would be very troublesome for the entire band of 80 members to travel there back and forth. Hence, we will only be allowed to buy our breakfast from 7/11 or the coffee shop behind school. We hope that you'll understand why we've made this decision.

DEAR IJ CONCERT BAND,

Hello guys, soooooo SYF's on 7th April, which means 1month-2days, as of today. Let's start with thinking about our current standard, as an individual. Are you putting that 101th percentile? Are you giving it your all? Though we may be improving, the sound the judges are looking for isn't present. Think about how you, personally can improve, how you can move up to the next level. Remember that you're doing a favour to Sir, the teachers, and most importantly, to the band. As Mr Chan says, it takes only one girl to spoil the sound.

Next, think about our standard as a band. Are we working together? First, as a part (eg.tutti 1st clarinet, second trombone), then as a section, then with people of the same/similar parts, then with the band. Sure, conflicts are bound to surface among section mates or among band members. But remember, dont let these minor disputes affect how much you practise. You may hate another, start tweeting/facebooking about how she pisses you off, and expressing your anti-band thoughts. But how would this change anything? It would only make you, and that person feel worse. You are all seniors, sec 2 to 4. Your juniors are all looking up to you guys, What would they think? Since my seniors do so, I can too. If they scold me, I'll show them evidence that they started it. Set a good example. You might not care how others see you, but the feeling isn't nice. The juniors are watching you.

Having discussed majority of the problems that aroused in our band, we have to work together as a band, We are a band. We are one, When one falls, all fall. When one celebrates, all celebrate. This is the kind of bond that are so strong in IJ, that no other school posses. We mustn't break this spirit, all the more make our graduated seniors disappointed. What happened in Sydney was in the past. It could have had been a nightmare to some, as well as a wake-up call to others. Do you want a repeat of Sydney? Answer this yourself. To achieve the shiny gold medal, we've got to cooperate with one another, with an open heart, and fulfil what we are supposed to be - a band. IJ concert band's THE BAND. Now's the time to live in harmony, to put aside our differences and stop habouring on unhappy thoughts!

TO SLs:
Bring your section to a higher level. Have faith in yourselves, and be confident about your decisions. You know yourself the best, so do what you think is right.
TO THOSE WHO JUST REALISED SYF'S REALLY NEAR, AND HAVENT STARTED PRACTISING YET:
You dont have to be great to start, but you have to start to be great. Now's the time to put in your utmost, and give it your all! It's not about the number of times you had fallen, but how many times you bounce back up after you fall. Persevere and
TO THOSE WHO FAILED AUDITIONS:
It's how you deal with failure that determines how you achieve success. Don't be put off, and dont lose hope, think positive!
TO THOSE WHO HAVE UPMOST CONFIDENCE IN THEMSELVES (it's not smth to be ashamed of):
Stand with people not above yourself. Guide those around you, and remember, complacency KILLS!

Well, i hope i didnt bore any of your cute little brains, give it serious thought alright? WE.CAN.DO.THIS. Have faith, hope and love in ourselves, our juniors, our seniors and ultimately our band! Dont give up and make full use of our time, andddddd GET THE GOLD!

Lastly, I end off with Mr Leonard Tan's favourite phrase. " Practise like you're the worst, but play like you're the best".

Please report in the band room by 7.30am sharp tomorrow. We will conduct an uniform inspection before the brass players move off to the hall at 8am. Attendance will be taken at 7.30am. Meanwhile, the woodwind section will be having sectionals with sir in the band room (8am). After the fanfare, brass players please return to the band room for futher instructions.

Sec 2 woodwind players, you will stay in the band room for warm-ups with us and then move off for self-practise at 8am. Only until the band finishes playing the school song are you (brass sec 2s incl) allowed to be dismissed.Please take note that all sec 2s will still be required to do your morning rounds every week until band officially stops for the mid-year exams. No one is allowed to walk any of the 8 rounds.

We have only 11 days left till band camp and 19 days left till SYF soundcheck. Let's make full use of the time we have left and do the best we can! (:

these are updates of announcements on Sat
1. Fri, you will be allowed to leave class early to rehearse for Honour's day. Tkake note that or Friday's rehearsal, you will NOT be wearing full band uniform, instead just be sure to be in PINAFORE AND BLOUSE.

2. All band members will be allowed to go on holiday between 11 jUNE TO 25 JUNE.

3. For Honour's day, we will be playing Majulah, school Song, and Captain's Fanfare, Sec 2s please memorise them, and memorise them well.

4.ALL receiving awards for Honors day, pls attend mon's Honor's Day rehearsal, you will not be obliged to attend Band practice.

5. ACJC will be having a concert on 27TH March ,Sunday, at yong siew toh conservatory. Tickets are going at $15 ,so if anyone is interested, pls let me know.

Hey band :)
All of you are suppose to have a recording for Memories Of Friendship and Hungarian Rhapsody 2.
So those SLs and ASLs who haven't sent the recordings to your section, please do send it to them by this saturday as Mr Chan wants EVERYONE to have it.

Also, some of you often request for scores. Please take note that I am in charge of the woodwind section while Denise is in charge of the brass section, so go to the right person when asking for scores. :)

Lastly, if you lose your scores and wish to get another one, you will have to pay for the photocopying fees and if you want to borrow scores during band practice, please do not write on it and try not to crumple it and remember to return the scores after band practice!

(Just to take note, sec 4/2-4/4 will be having self-awareness camp next saturday thus they won't be around.)

Hey Band, good job again for today's successful rehearsal. It couldn't have been made possible if not for everyone putting in their 100% effort. I would like to thank all those people who came back for sectionals and self-prac since last Wed. I have been seeing an increase in the number of people who are coming down for extra practices (: so keep up the good work.

The discipline in sections have also increased rather significantly today (and Sat as well) and I would like to thank all their members for co-operating with their SLs and ASLs to help make band progressive. Percussion, french horn and trombone-good job in maintaining the low noise level. (: It's really heartwarming to see that everyone is doing their part for band.

Thank you all who have put in that extra spoonful of effort and being individually responsible for your own playing and the progress of the band.

Here's a number of announcements and reminders:

Honour's Day is on 5th March, 3 weeks from now. Please memorise the school song and fanfair
Please memorise your scores for memories of friendship by next Sat (good job on the progress today)
All members whose morning rounds have been accumulated to 2 weeks or more, your names will be posted up on the band blog if you do not finish clearing them by Sat
Please pass all letters of excuse for Sat's games to me. I am still waiting for them from some people
Schedule for Sat remains the same as last week's. Sections are allowed to go down to the canteen to buy drinks during break but no one is allowed to leave the school to buy food. All food and drinks are to be left outside the band room before the start of rehearsal. Sections are allowed to eat in the classrooms as well, given that all rubbish is to be thrown outside in the dusbins along the corridor

Remember to respond with enthusiasm as well guys! It starts from the time when we take attendance. Responding spontaneously sets the mood of the band for a new rehearsal and marks a new start of practice. Remember, the band is only as strong its weakest player.

Hello Band,
So as Jing Wei announced today during announcements;
The markings for the bag space has been marked on the carpet.
Those who put their bags outside the allocated areas will have their bags confiscated.
Please do not put your bags at your section's area either.
Bags that are found there will also be confiscated.

Please remember to Zip your bags as well! :)

The fee for reclaiming their bags and such is $2 per bag.
For now, files and books that belong to the same person who had their bag confiscated will not have an additional fee.
However please do not take advantage of this.

As for Instrument Cases: Please do not place them in the marked area as they are taking up a lot of space.
Instead, either put them back in your section's cupboards or place them under your chairs.
Currently, there is no fine for those who have placed their cases in the marked area; However if many people continue to do so, a fine will be imposed.

ALSO please DO NOT bring food or sweet drinks into the band room.
Especially Sec 1s and 2s.
Anyone caught bringing sweet drinks and food into the band room will have their items thrown away. INCLUDING lunchboxes.
Items are not allowed to be brought into the room unless put into your bags.
They are not even allowed to be placed; covered, sealed, etc..; outside your bags on the carpet.

Please also note that for those who eat at the table outside the band room, remember to throw away and clean up any mess on the table.

Lastly, for woodwinds, please take your reeds sparingly. It has been seen that some of you take reeds just because you can.
Please only request for a reed if you have chipped your previous one or if it is time to change.
From now on, we will be asking you the reason why you are taking a reed.
We have the right to decline your request for a reed if we find that your reason is not valid.
If need be, we will request to see your previous chipped reed, etc...

Hello band, good job for Saturday's rehearsal. It had been very progressive and the concentration level was quite high. If we continue to progress at this rate, band practices will be very effective (: Keep up the good work! Good job for all those who brought home their instruments to practise and those who came back for self-prac, your efforts paid off. (:

Natalie has been appointed as our new student conductor and she will be leading warm-ups from now on. Please take note that your breathing pipes and bread bags should be with you for every Wednesday and Saturday practices. If either items are missing, you will have to stand up and continue with the breathing exercises.

Here are some of the notices and announcements:

Please try your best to come earlier on Monday sectionals to set up your instruments as it is distracting for the sec 1s when the door keeps opening and closing. Move off for sectionals immdiately as the room will be used for Jr Band. Please ensure that you bring along your metronomes and tuners for sectionals. Attendance will be taken after band. If members are consistantly coming late for sectionals, SLs please inform the teachers
Placing of bags-all bags are to be placed at the right-hand side of the band room only from now onwards
Extra chairs-SLs, if there are any extra chairs lying around in your row, please inform the QMs or stack them up with the other chairs near the side of the band room
Wednesday practice-we will only be working on the set piece for rehearsal. Therefore, SLs and ASLs will be spending more time working on this piece on Monday
2 weeks (till 26 Feb) to memorise MOF (memories of friendship) and Hungarian fig. 1-13-everyone must be able to play with their files closed. This idea will be reinforced by sir as well. However, first priority goes to auditions. Focus on your auditions before memorising your pieces (:
Auditions for non-SYF sec 2s-your audtions for MOF will be held 1 week after SYF and the senior comm will be testing you. If you fail the first round of audtions, you will be re-auditioned 2 weeks later. Auditions for Hungarian will be confirmed on a later date. 1st round of auditions is about 7 week-8 weeks' time

Hey band! Ok, some updates.

Sec 2s - Those who aren't going for SYF are allowed to go on the STARPlus, May, and June trips, but no one is not allowed to go on the end of years trips. Also, please memorise your school song and majulah. You might be randomly tested on them. For those who are not selected for SYF, please note that your last Saturday for you is on the 12th of Feb. Note that you have to be there for ALL Jr band practices, your attendance will be taken with the Sec 1s.
Honour's Day - 5th March. Brasses please memorise your fanfare, the whole band is to play the school song.
Auditions - are going to be held next week. Woodwinds are tested on hungarian, and brasses will be tested on on memories of friendship. You'll be tested on your rhythm, dynamics, tone quality, articulation, and your posture. It's going to be one by one, but your section will be there in the band room with you.
Instruments - The whole band needs to bring home their instruments for the week because of our short break. Please take all instruments home by TUESDAY, 1ST FEB. Arrange with the QMs to open the band room.
Morning Runs - Those who have to make up your runs, you have Tuesday and Wednesday morning to do so. Comm members will be at the gallery steps to take your attendance. If you do not complete your rounds by this week, you will have to stay back on our next Saturday practices to do your runs.
SLs - Please remember to send the recordings for Hungarian and Memories to your section. Also, please assign all the old instruments to your juniors because they are the most seasoned ones.
Band Camp - Is during March Holidays: Tuesday is from 8am-5pm, Thursday to Saturday is an overnight camp.
Recordings - Please transfer all recordings of Hungarian and Memories onto your phone or MP3 for easy reference.
IMPORTANT!
CCA Drafts - Please check your drafts. Any changes are to be made in red ink and are to be signed by either one of the teachers. If it is a change to anything not related to band, please find the appropriate teacher in charge to get their signature to verify the change, then submit it to Mr. Tang's pigeon hole by next Monday, 7th Feb.

Hey guys! So, morning assembly tomorrow! Be in the band room by 7am! :)

Ok, next thing. Starting this week, we're not going to allow make-up runs. So if you don't run for the week, don't produce an MC or a letter, and insist you can't get to school on time in the mornings for whatever reason, you'll have to run AFTER band on SATURDAYS and I'm sure all of you don't want that right? So make life easier, come a bit earlier in the mornings, and RUN RUN RUN! :)

Anyway, Sec 2s, please remember that tomorrow is the last time you're allowed to bring your files and stands down for assembly, so please get it memorised ASAP. To make your life easier, memorise it by today so that you don't have to deal with carrying your stands, files, AND instruments down tomorrow. Haha.

HI BAND!

Ok, some announcements for you guys to take note of. :)

Morning Rounds - Rounds start this week! Remember, it's 8 rounds once a week. If you really can't run the full 8, run 6 and BRISK WALK the last 2. Please, don't stroll. The weekly rounds are meant to help build up stamina. Take it seriously ok guys? The only valid reasons that you guys don't run for the week is that you are sick 3 out of the 4 running days, it is raining in the morning for the week, you are excused from NAPFA, or you have a long term injury, ie. ankle sprain. But please, try your best to run every week. It's good practice for NAPFA too! It isn't too far away you know.
Assembly - Morning assembly is tomorrow! Please be in the band room by 7am to set-up your instruments. Percs seniors, please play for assembly. Your juniors can help out in future assemblies. Sec 2s, please try to memorise your score for your own sake. It's better than competing with the wind to keep your scores on the stands. But if you have to bring them down, blu-tack your scores to your files and bring your files down, and hope the wind doesn't flip your page half way. :)
Sec 2s - Please really familiarise yourselves with whatever scores you have. Your SLs may be holding random tests for any of the pieces that you have, especially the orientation pieces, the national anthem, and the school song. Do know your scores well :) Ask your seniors for help if you need.
Collection of Money - If you haven't already done so, please pay your SLs. Sec 2s, please pay $4.20. Seniors, please pay $9.40. SLs, please hand over the money to Vanessa ASAP. Thanks :)
Orientation - Please be in the band room by 7.30 on Saturday, in your full band uniform without stockings. Also, learn your scores properly. Seniors, please guide and help your juniors as much as possible. They really need our attention right now because they're still getting used to the fast pace of the main band, and they really need our help.

Hey band! So, a few reminders for you guys.

For Saturday band practices, we will not be accepting parent's letters, we will only take MCs as valid reasons.
Sec 2s, please memorise the national anthem and school song by February. Starting then, you will not be allowed to bring your files and stands down for morning assembly. Please do your best to memorise it as soon as possible. If you can, try not to bring down your files and stands even in January.
SLs please create a list of your sections contact details. So the basic, name, class, address, handphone no., house phone no., birthday. Please get this done and given to me by the next band practice, either in person or via email.
Please take note that next year's Sec 1 practice is every Monday and Wednesday. Those taking part in the SYF are not to help them. They will be left in the care of the conductor and the those not in the SYF core group. Also, all new Sec 1s will have a Sec 2 buddy, and there should be enough Sec 2s for a 1-to-1. If necessary, it will be 1 Sec 2 to 2 Sec 1s.
Lastly, can all SLs/ASLs, please ensure that the Sec 2s have these few things by next practice:

Hello Band! Here are some reminders & announcements for you. Please take note of all of them before band resumes next Wednesday. Which is, by the way, 8 days!

All SLs/ASLs/rep of your section, please make sure that your sec 1 jrs have the following scores printed before band resumes: March Together, Can't take my eyes off you, National anthem, School song. They are expected to be able to play national anthem and school song when band starts
Please re-oraganise your band files and make sure to memorise the first 36 bars of 'March Together' (req. for SYF)
Those of you who might be still be unclear about the fareewll party, its next wed (1st band prac) from 1pm-4pm. (P.S. the gifts for the seniors!! :D)
After school reopens next year, all SLs are reminded to gather at the gallery steps every morning before morning assembly. This is to provide opportunity for us to help our jrs (esp our soon-to-be-sec2) with their pieces and for us to foster a stronger bond between student leaders in the band

Hey everyone, here's a few reminders/announcements:

For brass instruments, if your valves are stuck, the school will not be liable for the repairs
Sec 4 & 5 farewell party will be on 29th Dec (wed) after band. Make sure your gifts are ready by then!
All SLs are to ensure that the sec 1s receive the national anthem and school song scores before band resumes. They are expected to be able to play when band starts.
Only march together, can't take my eyes off you, memories of friendship, hungarian rhapsody, function chorales and warm-ups scores should be in your files. Make sure the bar numbers are written for the SYF chioce piece.
Please memorise the first 36 bars of March Together. This is part of the requirement for SYF. We need to play it without our scores (and we might be marching while playing). Please do so by the time band resumes

For Friday auditions, make sure that the SLs meet the senior comm at about 8.45AM to tell us the parts you have decided to test, this is so that we can assess which parts may be redundant, so that it will save time. (THIS MEANS SENIOR COMM WILL HAVE TO BE UP IN THE BAND ROOM BY 8.45AM TOO)

Hey band.

Some reminders for all of you. :)

No one is allowed to go to the washrooms BEFORE and AFTER break. The point of giving you a break is so that you guys can go during that time so as to not disrupt the band practice. Please realise that this is for the sake of having the most productive practice possible everytime.
We know that morning runs are tiring, so being nice, we have decided to give you guys a longer break before we start warm-ups. But, this means that you guys should be giving your all during warm-ups, and you should be louder from now onward.
SLs, please take note of what Mr Chan said on Saturday. Call your section back for sectionals on days that we don't have practice. Even if you can't get the whole section, get a few to come down at a time. Especially your weaker players. Please do this for the sake of the band's faster progress.
As of right now, with our attendance dropping, the teachers are considering not giving the CCA points to those who do not take part in the SYF next year, as long as your attendance is poor and you are not putting the effort into practices. If this continues, only the SYF core group would be getting the CCA points for SYF, and the rest of the band will not be able to get that 6 points or however many the SYF group gets.
There will be section auditions during one of the Monday sectionals. Please be prepared for them.
Lastly, all SLs are to stay back after band on Sat, 13th Nov to meet with Anne and Jing Wei. They have stuff to say to you guys. :)

So guys, remember that all of this is to help with a faster progess of the band k? I know you want time in the holidays to go out with friends and stuff, but right now, try and dedicate your time to band so that we can be ready to put up a decent concert at the end of the month, please?

If you haven't realised, CONCERT IS IN 20 DAYS!
So yeah, please get that into your head and do something about it!

Hey everyone!

Congratulations to all of you for completing your exams! Good luck to all sec 2s and I hope you can get into the class of your choice. Sec 3s, although we have not much to lose (haha..) if we do not do well, I hope everyone meets your own expectations and goals for the exams :) I know its unfair that band resumes so fast and we do not have time to have a decent break, please realise that we only have less than 18 practices left till concert. That means we only have less than 2 months of practices!!! :O

Sir will not be coming for 1 week and most of the sec 3s will be going for work attachment for at least a week. There's going to be chaos and breakdowns here and there sooner or later due to stress but it can't be helped. It is only through both good and bad times that the band will grow stronger and the only thing that can help to minimize these unfortunate events are through having more communication within the section and empathizing with each other, both seniors and juniors alike. It is time that everyone steps up to pull the band together and help one other through this difficult phase of time.

sorry for any mess-ups about the morning rounds. Since a lot of you still have not completed your make-up rounds, tomorrow will be the last day for you to make-up before the new school term. Those who ran this week, your attendance will be recorded after all. i hope this helps to lear all of your doubts!

Also, if anyone of you still have not brought your instruments home please do so by the end of the Sept Holidays, and do not forget to sign out, otherwise it will be considered as theft. The sec 4s (N/TT) will also have to bring theirs home.

Your SLs should be giving out the rest of your songs during the Sept holidays, so please do not forget to get them blu-tacked and numbered by the time band resumes.

Hey band. Just a few reminders for you guys.

Our concert is on Saturday, 27th November so please try to at least go over your scores while we don't have band for the next few weeks. When you're trying to relax after studying too much, pick up your instrument for just a few minutes and just play a scale or something. Keep your emboucher. :)
No one is allowed to self-prac outside the band room. We have informed you guys before that neighbours have complained multiple times, and recently complained again. So as IJ Band, we'll be considerate and let them have some peace by not playing outside the band room. Also, try your utmost best not to play at the stairwells either. The sound echoes really loud there. So yeah, try sticking to practicing in the band room. If you really have to, practice at the science lab block.
NO ONE IS ALLOWED TO SIGN UP FOR TWINNING PROGRAMMES DURING THE HOLIDAYS! If you haven't noticed, all the twinning programmes are happening during our preparations for concert. This is for the benefit of the band so that we'll really reduce the number of absentees and hopefully have as many practices with a FULL band.

So, I hope you guys understand why we don't allow our members to go for twinning programmes and why we don't want you guys playing outside the band room. Anyway, all the best for exams, and make good use of the study break. STUDY! Sec 2s, streaming this year, so work hard yeah? Sec 3s, we need to prepare for Os next year. It's coming up really soon! Imagine, in a year's time, we'll be in the same place as our seniors right now. So don't be complacent and think we have a lot of time k? Work hard and do your best! See you guys after exams! :)

Everyone, please youtube the new piece, Dance 1, that we're going to be playing. I'll just type exactly what sir wrote on the board:

Please start practising at crochet=80. The actual tempo will be crochet=144
SLs, please meet Anne at the gallery steps on 28th July, Wednesday morning week 5 and she'll tell you the parts to cut for the piece
Masterclass on Tuesday will be from 3-6pm but be prepared to stay back till 6.30pm
There will be no Wednesday practices on week 5 and 6. SLs, ensure that there are people coming down for Jr Band on Tuesdays

Reminders

Please remember that your breadbags should be at your seats during every band practice. They can be easily purchased at 7/11 store so there is no excuse that you could not find one
On Tuesday, please leave your bags in the guitar room during the masterclass and remember to keep focused throughout the class, please be on our BEST behavior and remember, play with EMOTION.
After the masterclass, work on your section competition as The First Recital will be on 21st August

Ok, a few announcements and reminders:

1. BAND MASTER CLASS
Master class is this TUESDAY, 27TH JULY. It begins at 3pm.

2. WEDNESDAY PRACTICE
FYI there is no practice on WEDNESDAY, 28TH JULY. Take the band master class as our mid-week practice. Be thankful that the teachers are nice by giving us an afternoon off because of the master class!

3. FANFARE RECORDING
Fanfare recording is DURING practice this Saturday, 24th July! Brass players, please please please make sure you know your parts and just try your best! :)

4. PLEASE TRY TO REPORT BY 7.45AM TO WARM UP ON SATURDAYS

There is a recording session for the Captain's Fanfare tomorrow, Saturday 24th July, 12pm. Do come down if you can make it.

Yo Band!!!

Okay, so in case you were soooo exhausted today that we can't remember the announcements made, i shall remind you:)

1. Remember , each day that you forgot to log in your temperature for the last three days, that is Sat, Sun and Mon, it will be four rounds each day, so it's a maximum of 12 extra rounds per person.

2. For Saturday, please remember to report in the Band room by 7.45 am. Once there, please use your time wisely and take the opportunity to warm up your instruments, maybe practice some warm-ups or the pieces we're going to play for the MASTER CLASS. (Eagle Bend and Down By the Salley Gardens)

3.YOG rehearsal dates are as follows: 2nd August from 2.30-5.00pm, but this is not compulsory for sec 4s, though you are encouraged to come. But those who have intensive lessons on the same day, please attend the lessons instead. There is also compulsory rehearsal on the 5th August ,Thursday, from 2.30-5.00 pm. On the 6th and 7th of August, from 6.30-11.00 am, 6th is the National day celebrations. So you won't be missing lessons. 7th is the actual Torch Relay. There is also a recording session on the 24th july, at 12.00 pm ,the sec 4s are highly encouraged to come.

4. Please remember to practice F major scale, Cmajor and F# major scales for Brass, Woodwind and Percussion respectively. Don't forget, its 2 octaves!

5. Please remember to pin up your fringes if you don't want to run extra rounds, it's one extra round for each member, 4 rounds for Comm member or SL.

Please take note of the following reminders/announcements that we made today. SLs, please make sure that your section are aware of these, especially those who were absent:

Announcements

We have made 7.45am an unofficial reporting time for Saturday band practices
Those who owe morning jogs in week 3, you have until Friday week 4 to make up your jogs for both week 3 and week 4. If you fail to do so, you will have to do sprinting exercises on Saturday, after morning rounds
Those of you who did not fill in your temperature takings in your gmail account, you will have to make it up in week 4. 1 missing temperature record= 1 round. Jing Wei will be tracking your rounds
All punishments from the time the graduating seniors stepped down will be erased. This only includes running, not 'superman' punishments
All brass SLs, please confirm the number of people who are playing The Captain's Fanfare with Anne
Mr Lim does not need the seniors to be down for Jr band on Saturdays so the whole band has to be in the band room, unless Clara tells you to do otherwise, if not, we need you upstairs.

Reminders

The band will be playing the national anthem and the school song on Monday. Please come earlier to sort out your notes/rhythms (esp for melody). Those of you who are getting new parts are allowed to bring down your scores. Be down at the parade square by 7.15am. Anyone coming later than that, attendance will not be taken for you.

Hey band!

There's an upcoming concert that I really suggest you guys all try to go for. West Winds is performing and they'll be playing Overture No. 1, a previous SYF piece our band played, Down by the Sally Gardens, which we would be playing as part of our master class, and many other songs. It is on a Sunday evening, so if it happens to be a family day for you, bring along your parents and siblings! I'm sure they'd enjoy it too. Hey band,

Please remember to log into your school gmail accounts and record your daily temperatures.

About the trip, I hope all of you had the experience of a lifetime. It was no easy feat getting this far, for all 89 people to go up on stage and put up a wonderful performance and I'm really proud of everyone. All of our hard work was worth it with a golden performance. We left with zlitch regrets, so it was great. It was personally the best present I've received on my 16th birthday.

For those on the Qantas flight, please take note that you are supposed to meet at row 5, terminal 1 tomorrow. Also, the program for the performance at Opera House is Eagle Bend, Lowell and Vogel.

So tomorrow's the day! :D Please ensure that you have packed everything, most importantly your instruments, band file, booklet, thermometer, band uniform, stockings court shoes etc.

Hi band,

here are a few things to take note of:

1. Those on the QF flight, do check the row you'll be at http://www.changiairport.com/ on Thursday (tomorrow), 24th of June. They will only update the Row number 3 days before depature, which explains why you can only check starting from tomorrow onwards. I will update the blog on which row it'll be as well.

2. Those instruments that have used the bubble wrap, please take good care of the bubble wrap throughout the trip. The teachers will not be bringing any spare bubble wraps for the instruments.

3. Do inform your parents that there would daily updates of the trip posted on the school website.

PLEASE PLEASE CHECK YOUR SCHOOL TIMETABLE AS WELL BEFORE YOU FLY OFF
AND PLEASE LOOK BELOW FOR THE PIECES WE ARE PLAYING FOR THE RESPECTIVE PERFORMANCES.

Today's band practice was a really great one, a really great final practice before we're off to Sydney! What we played today sounded really nice, and we've definitely come a long way since we first started the competition pieces. In 2 days plus a few hours time, we'll be on a plane, on our way to Sydney, getting ready for the various performances there. Are you all excited? So anyway, here's the order for the various performances:

(Vogel and Eagle Bend might not be played, depending on the performance time we're given)

Please remember remember remember to bring your full set of band uniform with stockings, court shoes, thermometers, raincoat/umbrella.
